GHS Category -- Flammable Gases (including chemically unstable gases)

Posted Date:2022/8/3 1

GHS Definition:

▪Flammable gas refers to the gas that has a flammable range with air at 20 ℃ and a standard pressure of 101.3 kPa.

▪ Chemically unstable gas refers to a flammable gas that can have an explosive reaction even in the absence of air or oxygen.

GHS standard:

Flammable Gas Standards

Category

Standard

1

At 20 °C and 101.3 kPa standard pressure, gas:

(a) is ignitable when the mixture is 13% or less by volume in air; or

(b) Regardless of the lower flammability limit, with air, the flammable range is at least 12 percent.

2

Gases other than Class 1 gases that have a flammable range when mixed with air at 20°C and a standard pressure of 101.3 kPa.

NOTE: Aerosols are not classified as flammable gases.

Examples of flammable gases:

▪ Carbon dioxide and ethylene oxide mixture

▪Fluoromethane

▪Fluoroethane

▪Vinyl fluoride

▪Cyclopropane

▪Cyclobutane

▪Ethylene oxide

▪Monosilane
