GHS in Central and Eastern European Countries
Posted Date:2021/12/17
On the “Belt and Road”, there are 16 Central-Eastern European countries, 11 of which belong to the European Union (EU), such as Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania and Bulgaria. EU member states are required to implement EU CLP (Classification, labeling and packaging) regulations.
The CLP regulation (Classification, labeling and packaging) is the European Union Regulation No. 1272/2008, which is called the classification, labeling and packaging regulations for substances and mixtures (preparations). At the same time, the CLP regulation is also a concrete manifestation of the globally unified classification and labeling system (GHS) in the European Union, which came into effect on January 20, 2009.
After the CLP regulations come into effect, the original Dangerous Substances Directive 67/548/EEC (DSD) and the Dangerous Preparations Directive 1999/45/EC (DPD) will be gradually abolished. The implementation of this regulation indicates that in addition to responding to REACH regulations, companies also need to comply with the requirements of CLP regulations in order to successfully implement trade with Europe. According to Article 4 of the CLP Regulations, if substances and mixtures (preparations) do not meet the requirements of the CLP Regulations, they cannot be placed on the EU market.
