GHS Category -- Aerosol
Posted Date:2023/5/24
GHS definition:
An aerosol, also known as a nebulizer, is any nonrefillable reservoir made of metal, glass, or plastic, containing a compressed, liquefied, or pressurized dissolved gas, with or without a liquid, paste, or powder, and equipped with a release device that allows the contents to be ejected to form solid or liquid particles suspended in a gas or to form a foam, paste, or powder. Either in a liquid or a gas state.
GHS classification criteria:
Aerosol standard
Category
|
Standard
|
1
|
(a) any aerosol containing a flammable component (by mass) of more than 85% and a heat of combustion of more than 30 kJ/g;
(b) any aerosol with an ignition distance of 75 cm or more, measured in the ignition distance test, capable of ejecting aerosol; or
(c) Any aerosol that emits foam at the following values as measured in the foam flammability test:
(I) flame height ≥ 20 cm and flame duration ≥ 2 s; or
(2) Flame height ≥ 4 cm and flame duration ≥ 7 s.
|
2
|
(a) Any aerosol for which the ignition distance test indicates that it does not meet the criteria for Class 1 and the following values are measured:
(I) flame height ≥ 20 kJ/g;
(ii) combustion heat < 20 kJ/g, and ignition distance ≥ 15 cm; or
(III) Combustion heat < 20 kJ/g, ignition distance < 15 cm, and one of the following values is measured in the closed space ignition test:
− Time equivalent ≤ 300 s/m3; or
− Deflagration density ≤ 300 g/m3; or
(b) Any aerosol foaming agent whose flammability test results indicate that the flame height is greater than 4 cm and the flame duration is greater than 2 s, which does not comply with Class 1 standards.
|
3
|
(a) any aerosol containing a flammable component (by mass) less than 1% and a heat of combustion less than 20 kJ/g; or
(b) any aerosol containing a flammable component (by mass) > 1% or a heat of combustion ≥ 20 kJ/g, but which does not meet Class 1 or Class 2 standards as indicated by the results of the ignition distance test, the enclosed space test or the aerosol foam flammability test.
