Explanation of the form and characteristics of products in GHS

Posted Date:2024/9/19

The Globally Harmonized System applies to pure substances, their diluted solutions and mixtures. The shape of the product needs to make a good judgment in order to classify the product, compile SDS and label. The product forms and characteristics referenced in GHS are as follows:

Material form

Explain

Alloy

A metallic material that is macrohomogeneous and composed of two or more elements that cannot be easily separated by mechanical means. For the purposes of the Globally Uniform System classification, alloys are considered mixtures.

Dust

A solid particle of a substance or mixture suspended in a gas (usually air).

Gas

Vapor pressure greater than 300 kPa(absolute pressure) at 50℃; Or (2) : a completely gaseous substance at 20 ° C and a standard pressure of 101.3 kPa.

Liquid

A substance or mixture with a vapor pressure of not more than 300 kPa (3 bar) at 50 ° C, an incomplete gas at 20 ° C and a standard pressure of 101.3 kPa, and a melting point or initial melting point of 20 ° C or less at a standard pressure of 101.3 kPa. For viscous substances or mixtures where the specific melting point cannot be determined, ASTM D 4359-90 tests should be performed; Or carry out tests to determine mobility as specified in section 2.3.4 of Annex A to the Agreement on the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) (permeameter tests).

Air fog

A drop of a substance or mixture suspended in a gas (usually air).

Solid

A substance or mixture that does not meet the definition of a liquid or gas.

Vapour

The gaseous form of a substance or mixture released from its liquid or solid state.

Substance

Chemical elements and their compounds obtained in their natural state or through production processes, including any additives necessary to maintain the stability of the product and impurities derived from the process used, but excluding any solvent that can be separated without affecting the stability of the substance or altering its composition.

Mixture

A nonreactive mixture or solution of two or more substances.

Article

Article means a finished product other than a fluid or particle: 1. A particular shape or design is formed in the manufacturing process; (2) Its end-use function depends wholly or partly on its shape or design in the course of its end-use; 3. Under normal conditions of use, no more than a very small amount of hazardous chemicals, such as trace or trace amounts of hazardous chemicals, will be released and will not pose a physical hazard or health risk to employees.

Understanding the properties of substances is of great significance in the classification, labeling, SDS of products, such as: classification. Generally speaking, "articles" are not considered in GHS classification, that is, articles do not need to be classified.
