On January 27, 2003, the Parliament and European Council passed 2002/95/EC directive, The Restriction of the use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment, referred to as ROHS. Its basic content is: from July 1, 2006, the use of six kinds of harmful substances Pb, Cd, Hg, Cr6+, PBDE, PBB, PBDE in electrical and electronic equipment shall be limited when newly come to the market.

Compared to ROHS, (ROHS) 2.0 expand the products to all electrical and electronic equipment except the exemptions.

1. Including 2002/95/EC exemptions: eighth category products referred medical equipment, ninth category products referred monitoring equipment.
2. Adding eleventh category products: Other electrical equipments not covered in 1~ 10 category products, including cables and other components.
3. No expansion of restricted substances, but four kinds of harmful substances (HBCDD, DEHP, DBP and BBP) has been selected as the candidate of restricted substances.
4. Conformity of ROHS of electronic products and electrical equipments is pre-requirements of CE. Producers shall ensure products comply with ROHS and prepare declaration and technical documents before posting CE label.
