National Safety Technical Code of Toys GB 6675-2003

National safety technical code for toys is general mandatory technical specifications for toys which are sold in the market or produced for domestic sales. The specification applies to all toys which are designed or intended for children under the age of 14, except the toys not for children or to be used under parental supervision or with special conditions.

The specification sets requirements for toy safety from three aspects listed as below:

1. Mechanical and physical properties:
The specification applies to all toys which are designed or intended for children under the age of 14, applies to the first time toys and also the toys after reasonably use or unreasonably use, unless with specific statement.
The specification sets requirements for the acceptable structural characteristics of toys, such as shape, size, contour, gap (rattles, small parts, sharp points, sharp edges, hinges, etc) and some toys’ parameter requirements (the maximum kinetic energy of non-elastic projectiles, the minimum angle of ride-on toys, etc).
The specification sets the safety requirements (based on mental and physical ability to cope with hazards of various age groups) and testing methods for each age group from newborn babies to 14-year-old children.
The specification sets requirements for appropriate warning and / or instructions in toy bodies or packaging.

2, Flammability
The specification classifies the banned flammable material categories used for all toys and the combustion performance requirements of certain toys may be exposed to small fire.

3, Migration of specific elements:
The specification (based on certain elements bioavailability as a result of using toys) limits the maximum daily bioavailability of the following elements: Antimony, 1.4 micrograms; Arsenic, 0.1 micrograms; Barium, 25.0 micrograms; Cadmium, 0.6 micrograms; Chrome, 0.3 micrograms; Lead, 0.7 micrograms; Mercury, 0.5 micrograms; Selenium, 5.0 micrograms.
