Classification of Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Chemicals in SDS

Posted Date:2020/11/25

1. Dangerous goods

Definition in daily life: In air transportation, items or substances that may obviously endanger personal health and safety or cause damage to property.

The definition in the law is: the new "Safety Production Law" Chapter VII Supplementary Article 112 The meaning of the following terms in this law: Dangerous goods refer to flammable and explosive materials, hazardous chemicals, radioactive materials and other items that may endangering personal safety and property safety.

Standard

For the detailed classification of dangerous goods, please refer to the IATA "Dangerous Goods Regulations". The names of dangerous goods are subject to the "Chinese Civil Aviation Dangerous Goods Transportation Management Regulations" and refer to the currently valid IATA "Dangerous Goods Regulations."

The "Safe Production Law" stipulates in Chapter VII Supplementary Provisions Article 112: Dangerous goods refer to inflammable and explosive materials, hazardous chemicals, radioactive materials and other items that may endanger personal safety and property safety.

Dangerous articles are articles that, due to their chemical, physical, or toxic properties, may cause fire, explosion or poisoning hazards during production, storage, loading, unloading, and transportation, and may cause personal injury, death, and property damage. Obviously, this is a definition from the nature of the article. Generally speaking, dangerous goods mainly include: dangerous chemicals and radioactive materials.

Classification

1. Flammable, explosive and other dangerous chemicals. According to the “Regulations on the Safety Management of Hazardous Chemicals”, hazardous chemicals include explosives, compressed gas and liquefied gas, flammable liquids, flammable solids, spontaneously combustible materials and flammable materials when wet, oxidants and organic peroxides, Drugs and corrosives, etc. Compressed gas and liquefied gas mainly include: hydrogen, methane, ethane, compressed hydrogen sulfide, liquefied petroleum gas, natural gas for urban life, production, artificial gas, heavy oil gas and other gas fuels. There are drugs, such as sodium cyanide, potassium cyanide, nitrobenzene, etc. Corrosion products mainly include: acidic corrosion products, such as formaldehyde solution; alkaline corrosion products, such as ammonia, diethanolamine, etc. Other corrosive products, such as acid potassium fluoride, formalin solution, etc.

2. Radioactive materials. Mainly include: metallic uranium, thorium nitrate, etc.

3. Other items that can endanger human safety and property safety. Such as guns, controlled knives, etc.

2. Hazardous chemicals

Article 3 of the "Regulations on the Safety Management of Hazardous Chemicals" The term "hazardous chemicals" in these regulations refers to highly toxic chemicals and other chemicals that have toxic, corrosive, explosive, burning, and combustion-supporting properties and are harmful to humans, facilities, and the environment.

Classification

The United Nations "Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods Model Regulations" (2017 Revision 20) (referred to as "Model Regulations") is divided into 9 categories according to the hazard or the most important hazard of dangerous goods. as follows:

Category 1: Explosives

Category 2: Gas

Category 3: Flammable liquid

Category 4: Flammable solids, substances liable to spontaneous combustion, substances that emit flammable gas in contact with water

Category 5: Oxidizing substances and organic peroxides

Category 6: Toxic and infectious substances

Category 7: Radioactive substances

Category 8: Corrosive substances

Category 9: Miscellaneous hazardous substances and articles, including environmentally hazardous substances

According to GB13690-2009 "General Principles of Chemical Classification and Hazard Communication", classification according to the nature of physical, health or environmental hazards (same as GHS classification):
