How to Write the UN Number and Official Shipping Name
Posted Date:2020/12/2
Dangerous goods that are frequently transported are listed in the "List of Dangerous Goods." Articles or substances with specific names must be marked with the official shipping names in the Dangerous Goods List during transportation. These substances may technically contain impurities (for example, impurities generated in the production process), or use additives that do not affect their classification for stability or other purposes. However, the listed substance contains technical impurities or uses additives that affect its classification for stabilization or other purposes, it should be regarded as a mixture or solution (see the explanation of "mixture or solution" at the end of the text). For dangerous goods whose names are not specifically listed, use the items "genre" or "not otherwise specified" to determine the articles or substances to be transported.
Each entry in the list of dangerous goods has a UN number. The list also contains relevant information for each item, such as hazard category, minor hazard (if any), packaging category (if assigned), packaging requirements and tank transportation requirements. The entries in the list of dangerous goods fall into the following four categories:
(a) A single entry applies to substances or articles with a clear meaning; for example
1090 Acetone
1194 Ethyl nitrite solution;
(b) A category entry applies to a group of substances or articles with a clear meaning; for example
1133 Adhesive
1266 Fragrance products
2757 Solid carbamate pesticide, toxicity
3101 Liquid type B organic peroxide;
(c) Specific items "not otherwise specified" apply to a group of substances or articles with a specific chemical or technical property; for example
1477 Inorganic nitrate, not otherwise specified
1987 Alcohols, not otherwise specified;
(d) "Not otherwise specified" general items, applicable to a group of substances or articles that meet the criteria of one or more categories or items; for example
1325 Organic flammable solid, not otherwise specified
1993 Flammable liquid, no other regulations.
Mixture or solution:
A mixture or solution that meets the classification criteria, the single main component of which is one of the substances listed in the Dangerous Goods List, and one or more substances that are not restricted by this Regulation, and/or contain trace amounts of one or more For substances whose names are listed in the Dangerous Goods List, the mixture or solution must be given the UN number and official shipping name of the main component of the names in the Dangerous Goods List, unless:
(a) The mixture or solution has a specific name in the list of dangerous goods; or
(b) The name and description of the substance listed in the list of dangerous goods specifically indicate that the entry is only applicable to pure substances; or
(c) The hazard category or division, secondary hazard, packaging category or physical state of the mixture or solution is different from the substances listed in the Dangerous Goods List; or
(d) The emergency measures required for the characteristics and properties of the mixture or solution are different from the requirements for substances listed in the Dangerous Goods List.
In the above cases, in addition to the cases described in (a), the mixture or solution must be treated as a dangerous substance without a specific name in the list of dangerous goods.
